Konie
The Club is Open is the latest release from Konie, an electronic/dance Swedish band (?), that seems to be operating under the direction of this one Konie fellow.
The album starts off with a hilarious "The Club Is Open", which you hear an old man, seriously telling us that the Club is open... only to correct himself at the end:
Eh, I'm sorry, but the club is ... er.. out to lunch. It's closed, from the very first fuckin' beginning.
It really sets up the album to not take this album too seriously, that it's okay to have a little fun with it.
The intro is quickly followed by this 60s sounding surf guitar called "History/Science" (which I think Konie is actually playing all the instruments).
I generally liked all the songs with singing and lyrics (including "R U Ok", which seems to be destine to be a single), but instrumental tracks are also worth checking out because they're melodic, but full of interesting background sounds and noises (see "Romantische Musik" and "Fass").
Sandwich between the main songs are the hilarious "old man"'s various rantings... One of which reveals himself to be from Germany.
If "R U Ok" doesn't get you interested in checking out the album, his last single, My Life Is Shit But I Am Funky , was made into a music video:
Konie's The Club is Open is out now and available from Razzia Records.
