I've been really happy that Motion City Soundtrack are a famous band from Minneapolis, Minnesota (where I live!). I would have to describe as a power pop band, and in some ways sounds sort of like a very pop Green Day.
Their latest album, Even If It Kills Me is their most successful to date, charting #16 on the US Billboard charts. They are currently on tour to support their album throughout North America. Judging from some of the sold-out tour dates, it's going to be a pretty lucrative tour.
I only have the latest album to listen to, and I can tell you that their sound is very polish. It sounds like they are a studio band, but looking at some live footages: they are clearly also a great live band.
The best song on Even if It Kills Me is "This is For Real". The band agreed, because this song was selected as a second single. The first single was "Broken Heart", which I don't think is as catchy and poppy as "This is For Real" - however both tracks are excellent.
If I were to hazard a guess at their next single, I think they should go with "Where I Belong". It may have a curse word, but the magic of radio, they can easily remove the offending part.
Even If It Kills Me is available now from Epitaph Records, and hopefully they'll be touring through your town.
